The Design Code
Thursday, March 12th, 2009So, I went to the Art Institute of Seattle for a two year Associate of Applied Arts degree (a terminal degree not worth the paper it is printed on). I had a teacher there named Ed Griffin. He was an amazing, crazy man. He was like on another plane of existence, most of the time. He was like “zen design”. He lived and breathed design. I heard rumors (substantiated by my own experiences) that his wife would often have to translate for him, especially for foreign students not familiar with the English language.
During my time there, he was in the process of creating a book called The Design Code. And, in a nutshell, it is about the closest thing to making a science of design that you could ever hope to achieve. It distills design theory down to its base components, making them readily available for easy consumption, understanding and application.
It is amazing. Even just the six pages out of the book that are available for free are a gold mine of info. Check it out!
